The brief
A hot tub on every cabin deck
One&Only Moonlight Basin sits high in the Rockies at Big Sky, Montana. Each of its 19 freestanding guest cabins has a private deck, and each deck needed a hot tub.
The tubs had to sit flush with the decking, look like part of the architecture, and cope with long, hard Montana winters. We built 19 in all: 13 two-person and 6 four-person.

Designing it together
Redesigned from the ground up
Through 2024 we worked closely with Olson Kundig and Lone Mountain Land Company to rework our tubs for the cabins:
- Bigger tubs. The four-person tub grew to about 2.7 m long, including its equipment bay.
- A hidden equipment bay. Pumps, heaters and controls sit under a Kebony access door, decked to match the cabins, carried on gas struts, sealed against snow and rain, and lockable so guests can’t change the settings.
- Built for the cold. Insulation all round, a stronger frame, and US-spec Balboa equipment with a second heater for quick recovery in deep cold.
- Every detail drawn. We shared drawings and 3D models with the architects at every stage, from the equipment shelf and suction vents to the seal that keeps water out of the equipment bay.
- Easy to install. Adjustable feet level each tub on its concrete base, and a lifting bracket meant every tub went in fully assembled.

Built in Dorset
Handbuilt, tested, crated
Each tub was welded by hand in our workshop, with every external weld polished out, then filled and tested before it left.
The tubs were packed in custom crates and shipped in three containers across the Atlantic, then trucked to Montana.

The result
In place before opening
All 19 tubs were in place on the cabin decks by late October 2025, a few weeks before the resort opened.
“Private hot tubs promise alpine luxury in the wilderness.”
